Aliaune “Akon” Thiam is widely recognized as an award-winning artist, but his influence extends far beyond music. From Global Stardom to Social Impact

Born in the United States to Senegalese parents, Akon spent part of his childhood in Senegal, gaining firsthand understanding of what life without electricity looks like. The Birth of Akon Lighting Africa

In 2014, Akon co-founded Akon Lighting Africa with the mission of providing affordable and sustainable energy to underserved rural areas.
